Microsoft Server: Database Grooming Jobs

204| Fri, 06 Jun 2008 14:19:00 GMT| andycooney| Comments (5)
We have implamented MOM and are monitoring 20 computers. The system has been
running for only a few weeks and the database has already climbed up to
20GB!! I want to run the database grooming jobs but they do not appear to
have installed with the database.

Does anyone know how to get these jobs into SQL.

Thanks,

Andy

Have you installed MOM reporting? This way your production (OnePoint)
database would not grow so large because it would be moving the data to a
reporting database (which would grow large). You could also modify the number
of days MOM keeps the data. This way your database wouldn't grow as large.

Hello,

Thank you for your posting!

If you have System Center Data WareHouse Database, Just run the Data
Grooming Job in SQL Enterprise Manager,
You can also configure the Grooming in the MOM Admin Console Global Setting,
Database Grooming
If you have any questions, please feel to let me know. I am glad to be of
assistance.

Grooming job is installed by default when you install the database portion of
mom. Look for a sql job named 'momx grooming and partitioning'. It will
only groom resolved alerts, so also make sure you've marked alerts as
resolved.

Two possible reasons for fast database growth:
1. You installed reporting, but the DTS job is failing. If that occurs,
grooming will be suspended for up to 60 days (allowing you time to fix the
dts problem).
2. You installed the IIS management pack and are monitoring a few IIS
boxes. There's a default rule which collects all 400 errors (there can be
alot of them!) - I always disable that rule.

Thank you very much for your responses. My issue is not that I am not
resolving the events I do that on a daily basis. And I'm sure there are some
rules that are collecting far too much data that are an issue. But my more
immediate problem is that the jobs don't exist in SQL. 'momx grooming and
partitioning' is not listed under the available jobs in SQL server Can I
install just those jobs?

I think you will have to reinstall the MOM database component.
