Microsoft Server: Win2003 SP1 Install Issue: Error 0x0000007E

204| Wed, 04 Jun 2008 01:58:00 GMT| rzetlin| Comments (7)
Everytime when I try to install SP1 on my Windows 2003 Enterprise test
machine the computer continuously restarts everytime. I can get as far as
the splash screen and then the computer restarts.

The safe mode and "boot to the last known good configuration" does not work.
The computer just restarts again.

I was able to get the blue screen with the error message:

STOP 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xFC4CB135, 0xFCCA28D8, 0xFCCA25D4)

I tried several different methods of installing the SP1 (Reformat hard drive
partition, download other updates first) , but the same issues keeps on
occuring.

My test machine is a 233 Mhz PC with 128 MB of RAM and a 20 GB hard drive
with 4 partitions. I already ran a RAM test and the RAM is okay.

I'm out of ideas on how to install SP1 on the Win2003 machine.

Please help me out here.

If your machines are made by Dell they have an issue, contact Dell support
for a CD image to fix it.

I believe Dell recommend that SP1 isn't installed on Dell servers until
June, when they'll have a fix for the problem.

Test Machine? Do you have Beta's and Trial's installed? W2K3 Enterprise is a
trial or do you have RC1orRC2 beta installed or is W2K3 a trial version

Hi RZetlin,

I have also the same problem, and I'm using Windows 2003 Enterprise on a
Pentium 233 MMX w/ 256 MB SDRAM. (And unfortunately its not a dell either...)

It seems to be a common problem happening to alot of people...
Another user in a newsgroup has a similar problem if you would like to take
a look:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...=en-us&m=1&p=1

Other than that, I'll have to rebuild the machine, and wait till Microsoft
might fix this issue (hopefully).

Just my problem, too. Bluescreen says:

0x0000007E
0xC0000005, 0xF95D5135, 0xFA0CA8D8, 0xFA0CA5D4

It's a test machine too, so not really a problem for me. But what's going
wrong? Is it a video card issue (NVidia Riva TNT II), or a SCSI problem
(Adaptec 2940), or depends it on my software Raid 1 with two mirrored 8 GB
harddisk? Or what else is causing the blue screen of death?

If someone knows what's going wrong, please let me know!

Is that the machine_check error? I got that when I installed SP2...my box
made an interesting 'clicking' sound when it happened...sounded like the OS
send the hard drive head crashing into the case...
